Kat's Story

When I was 13 years old I felt the call to be a missionary. I did not know where but I knew Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone"(NLT) was meant for me. I read every missionary biography I could get my hands on and when the opportunity to go on a 10 month Mission trip to Russia presented itself I acted on it. A couple months after I came home I met my husband Jose he told me he was born in Peru and I was quite embarrassed to say all I really knew of Peru was that it is mentioned in a Frank Sinatra song ("Come Fly With Me") After we married we both felt strongly that God was calling us to Peru.
Admittedly I was not completely sure I wanted to go live there. But one day a missionary from Peru came and spoke at our church. He had pictures of the Peruvian children and it melted my heart.

When I was a child I didn't play princess or any of those types of  games. My favorite game to pretend was Peter Pan. I loved being Wendy and taking care of my "lost boys." I haven't really changed. When I see lost or hurting children I just want to pick them up and show them the love of their heavenly father. There are so many children here in Piura who need a home. One of the things I look forward to the most is when we can open a "home for lost boys" and orphanage here in Piura.

Since we have been in Peru I have been more stretched than I could ever have imagined. February 2nd 2012 our 1 day old son Caleb went home to Jesus. Our church here was 4 months old with about 20 members. People who were trying to help but didn't understand the call that God has placed on our lives tried to convince us that we should throw in the towel and go home. But we were never promised that the road would be easy. We were only promised that He would be with us through the difficult times. Deuteronomy 31:8 "It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Now we have over 100 members. Our church is one year old. I'm pregnant with our 4th child. God has brought beauty from ashes. Life has not gotten easier. But I know we are where God wants us to be and He has carried our family this year.

I am excited to be a part of the work that God is doing here in north Peru and would love to talk more with you about it if you are interested. My email address is jkmission2peru@gmail.com feel free to drop me a message anytime
