Christmas Outreach 2012

This year we are really excited to partner with Salvemos A La Familia

in the fight against child sexual abuse.

In Peru 4 out of every 10 children are sexually abused.

In Latin America 224 cases of sexual abuse are reported per hour.  

This totals 2 million children abused sexually every year. 

Most sexual abuse is committed by someone the child knows. 

The impact of that abuse is life altering. 

We believe that education is key in helping to prevent child sexual abuse.

Our plan is to give the book "Cuentos Que No Son Cuentos" to children ages 2-9 years old.

This book will help them to prevent sexual abuse, understand how to react if they are in a situation of abuse, and build their self esteem.

The publishing house has made the books available to us at cost.

Our goal is to reach 2000 children in Piura and the surrounding area.

Christmas Outreach

We are really excited to be doing our very first community outreach for Christmas. 

There is a little area outside of Piura where there are tons of impoverished families. 

Our plan is to bring Christmas gifts and dinner to 100 children. All it takes is $11 per kid. 

If you would like to participate please click the Children's Christmas Outreach donate button on the right of this page  and your donation will go to our goal of $1100.

You can include a message to the kids if you want and we will make sure the kids get them.

I will take lots of pictures and post them here and on Facebook.

The Exchange

Last night some ladies from Powerhouse had a fund raiser for us called "the exchange" everyone invited brought purses,  jewelry, belts etc... and got to bring home some new things. I thought it was a really cute idea. To raise money they had a small cover charge, raffles, photo ops. It was amazing and so, so fun. They asked me to speak about what we do. I should pause and say I love writing. I love sitting at my blog taking my time to carefully write out my thoughts. When I pause to think about the next thing I'm going to say I do not type um or and uh. So I'm much more eloquent in print than in person ;) Public speaking is very difficult for me just in general. It was really only by the grace of God that I did not faint or get completely tongue tied. I made it! and I spoke for 12 minutes! yikes! I got a little too wordy there (yet another reason I prefer writing to public speaking. ha)

One of the fun things for me last night was getting to talk to Viola (hi *waves*) I'm pretty sure we met before but it was fun to talk to her (as short as it was) because she reads this blog :) I have to admit sometimes I think that only a few people read this and it is fun for me when people talk to me about it. I also love it when people leave comments! So if you read and think I don't know you well enough for you to comment that is so not true! I would love to know who you are. So even if we've never met please, let me know what you think about whatever I'm talking about.
